Breast reduction may help you

Chronic back & neck pain

Pain that worsens through the day, doesn't respond to physiotherapy, and limits the activities you'd like to do.

Deep bra-strap grooves

Indentations that don't fade, signaling your skeletal frame is carrying load it wasn't designed for.

Skin irritation under the breast

Recurring rashes, fungal infections, or sweat-related discomfort in the inframammary fold — especially in summer.

Restricted movement & sport

You avoid running, jumping, and strength training because of breast movement. Even fitted sports bras don't fully solve it.

Postural changes & headaches

You catch yourself slumping forward. Tension headaches starting at the base of the neck have become routine.

Difficulty finding clothes

Buttoned shirts gap. Dresses that fit your waist don't fit the chest. Shopping has become exhausting.

Three Techniques

One operation, tailored to your anatomy

There is no single "best" breast reduction technique — there is the technique that fits your tissue, your goals, and your stage of life. The decision is made together at consultation, based on excess volume, skin elasticity, current and desired nipple position, scar tolerance, and whether future pregnancy or breastfeeding is on the horizon.

Vertical (lollipop)

Two scars: around the areola and a vertical line down to the breast crease. Suited to moderate reductions where skin elasticity is good.

Wise pattern (anchor)

Three scars in an inverted-T configuration. The standard for very large reductions or significant skin excess. Excellent shape control.

Liposuction-only

Scarless option for predominantly fatty breasts with good skin tone. Limited indications — most reductions also need tissue removal.

Patient Pathway

From first message to final follow-up

For international patients, the pathway is built around two principles: a thorough remote evaluation before you fly, and continuous post-operative support after you return home.

Remote consultation

WhatsApp or video call with photos. Your medical history, expectations, and anatomy are reviewed. A written plan and quotation follow within 3-5 working days. No payment requested at this stage.

Pre-op preparation

Smoking must stop 4-6 weeks before surgery. Blood thinners (including over-the-counter aspirin and ibuprofen) are paused. We send a checklist with everything to do and not do.

Arrival in Istanbul

Airport pickup, hotel transfer, in-person consultation. Bloodwork and (for patients aged 35+) a baseline mammogram. Anaesthesia consultation.

Surgery

JCI-accredited hospital, general anaesthesia, 2.5-4 hours depending on technique. One night inpatient stay. Drains placed; removed at days 3-5.

Recovery in Istanbul

5-7 days at the hotel with 2-3 in-clinic check-ups. Drains removed, dressings changed, scar care started, garment fitted. Light walking from day 1.

Return home & follow-up

Return flight at day 10-14. Weekly photo updates for the first 6 weeks, then video check-ins at 3, 6, and 12 months. WhatsApp access to the surgical team is permanent.

Frequently Asked

What patients ask before booking

How long does breast reduction surgery take?

Breast reduction typically takes 2.5 to 4 hours, depending on the volume removed and the technique used. The operation is performed under general anaesthesia in a fully accredited hospital. Most patients stay one night for monitoring and are discharged the next morning.

Will my insurance cover this?

For international patients, breast reduction is generally not covered by private or public insurance from your home country when performed abroad. Most pay out of pocket. Even so, the total cost in Türkiye is typically one-third to one-quarter of equivalent UK, German, or Swiss private fees — often less than the gap between what insurance would cover and what you'd pay locally.

How much tissue is removed?

This is highly individual. Measurements at consultation determine what's possible safely; your goals determine what's optimal. Typical resections range from 200g to 1,000g per breast. In macromastia and gigantomastia, resections of 1,500g or more per side are not unusual. The plan is finalized in person, the day before surgery.

Will I be able to breastfeed afterwards?

Modern pedicle techniques (inferior, superomedial) preserve a substantial portion of the milk ducts and nerve supply. However, breastfeeding capability cannot be guaranteed by any technique. If future breastfeeding is a priority, this changes both timing (delaying surgery may be wiser) and technique selection. We discuss this in detail at consultation.

Do scars fully disappear?

Scars fade — they do not vanish. Modern techniques place incisions where they're most easily concealed: around the areola, in the vertical midline of the lower breast, and in the inframammary fold. At 6 months scars are still pink; by 12-18 months they're typically pale and flat. Silicone gel and sun protection materially help. Patients with a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring need a specific plan.

When can I return to work?

Desk-based work: 10-14 days. Physically demanding work: 4-6 weeks minimum. Heavy lifting and high-impact sport are restricted for 6 weeks. Air travel is generally safe from day 7 onwards; international travel home is recommended at day 10-14.
